I had a wonderful time in Portland last weekend. It was just like heaven. I liked the Portland trip so much because in Oregon there is no tax! I especially enjoyed myself at CWU. My first impression of that university was that it is a little smaller than other universities I have ever visited. I saw many students from all over the world, like Japan and China. Our mission for visiting CWU was to share each other's culture by talking about our presentation topic. As I entered the Japanese class room, I met students who study Japanese. I was excited because I have rarely had such a chance to share Japanese culture with students here. My partners were Saori and Sayoko and we had said that we wanted to talk to funny guys and in fact, our partners were so funny! We had 2 partners. One was an American boy who was very shy and seldom talked. Another was a student from Taiwan. He looks like Onishi-Lion, who is a crazy Japanese comedian. This Taiwanese guy is interested in Japan and knows Japanese well, but he sometimes goes crazy. We guessed that these 2 guys had never talked to each other before that day because their personalities were totally different. Suddenly, the American boy disappeared from the classroom! We wondered if we might have said something bad, but about 10 minutes later, he came back to us. He had a Japanese magazine on sports cars. He is so interested in cars and I guess he wanted to talk about Japan through his hobby. He was cute! The other boy who looks like Onishi-Lion talked about Japanese drama and he criticized a Japanese actress. He said that her acting was terrible. I wonder how he could know her acting was bad. We continued for a long time joyfully and we, Saori, Sayoko, and I, couldn't stop laughing. Time went by so quickly! We had no time to do our presentation when we noticed, oh, no!, it's lunch time! We asked them to have lunch with us. Onishi-Lion could join us but the American boy couldn't because he said he had another class; however, we think it was a lie because we think he was toooooo shy to talk to us. At lunch time, we went to the cafeteria. That was huge and we could choose many kinds of food there. Luckily, Onishi-Lion bought us ice cream! He was a gentleman! We love Onishi-Lion! Anyway, my experience at CWU was precious for me because I could talk to students in the U.S. deeply. I hope I can have another time like that.
