The Father of Oregon

There are many wealthy families in the world. Extention students were lucky to be able to go on the Portland trip. The second day, we went to Oregon City. After we saw the view at Willamete Falls, we went to Dr. McLoughlin’s house. Dr. McLoughlin is a very important person for Oregon state. He established Oregon City, so he is called “The Father of Oregon.” We were able to see inside his house which looked a little bit like the Cambell house in Spokane. However, the house was white and simple, and smaller than I thought it would be; there were 2 floors with 8 rooms, and each floor had 4 rooms. The Cambell house's kitchen and laundry room are in the basement, but in Dr. Mc’s house there was no kitchen because if a fire brokeout the house would also burn down. They lived totally separated from servants. Dr. McLoughlin was a Canadian, but he loved America so much that he donated the money to make an American city. This is one of his good points because he used his money not only to pay for himself, but also for other people. I saw a picture of Dr. McLoughlin that made him look like a very strict person because of his serious face, but actually he was a good person. I learned many interesting facts about him and the history of Oregon in his house.
